Historians and scholars unpack the visual language of the Capitol riot and debunk the misguided notion that what we wear is trivial.

Black Fashion Insiders On Breaking The System

Dapper Dan, Brittney Escovedo and Dario Calmese discuss systemic racism in the fashion industry.

What does it mean to break the fashion system? First, you’ve got to acknowledge there is one.

WHO IS JULIA FOX? The New York bombshell has roots in fashion and art and a penchant for reinvention. An early Huff Post interview with Fox before her rise to fame.

Jill Di Donato and Phil B. Gomez

10 Fresh Beauty Trends Worth Exploring Now

What’s hot in the beauty world right now? For starters, clean beauty is the standard, not the exception. We noticed this and more while strolling through this week’s two-day Indie Beauty Expo, a gathering of more than 200 independent global beauty brands at the Magic Box in downtown Los Angeles.

As a style of dress, momcore dates back to a scene in the 2004 film “Mean Girls,” personified by Amy Poehler’s “cool mom,” who had a penchant for pink velour and diamonds. Fast-forward two decades, and the TikToker known as Tinx — along with other notable influencers like Chriselle Lim — has rebranded “cool mom” as “rich mom.”

Part spoof, part marketing ploy, the “rich mom” persona also owes a lot to franchises like “The Real Housewives” and “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” which make motherhood and its outfitting a for-profit spectacle. But what started as a sketch or satirical cultural commentary has become problematic, mainly because, in 2023, notions of identity, privilege and motherhood aren’t really fodder for comedy. Plus, it’s hard to satire something with an amorphous definition.

Blackfishing, Influencers And Cancel Culture: A Tangled Web

Kylie Jenner has been accused of it. So has TikTok star Addison Rae, as well as influencers like Emma Hallberg, Brielle Bierman and Scheana Shay. Blackfishing, or when a white person takes on a characteristic associated with a Black person’s phenotype for commercial gain, is a term that’s been floating around the zeitgeist since 2018.

In comparison to the fanfare maternity fashion receives, postpartum dressing is seldom discussed. Its aesthetic is decidedly pared down, focusing on the new mother's comfort and function. Getting dressed in the fourth trimester signals a major shift of body and soul. It's no wonder the clothes can be challenging.
